an ode to character . . . keep it alive my friends . . . .

So who knows what’s going on in politics tonight . . . fuck it all is really all that I can say (and you know I like to fit the world ‘fuck’ somehow into every post . . . . though it happens unwittingly). I was recently hanging out with some good friends in San Francisco/Berkeley and it was quite a good time to be there considering the prominence of Halloween house-parties – not to mention the fact of their winning the World Series in just a few quick games. Damn, those pitchers are good - talk about focus!

Anyways, we were hanging out one night in what is called the ‘mission area’ which is apparently similar to ‘williamsburg’ where I live in new york (Brooklyn, that is). It was very cool with this fun energy of lots of people out – enjoying good food and conversation – and I was looking at this place we were in and I had this sudden realization about the world, or at least the united states. It seems like it’s okay in either the true city or the middle of nowhere to do shit that’s weird and totally random – odd decorating, edging on ugly, etc. Whereas the suburbs have become so homogenous - safe/clean/sterilized that it’s almost as if you could be anywhere – and yet no-where at the same time.

It's really interesting and I think it all comes back to this idea of character . . . are you willing to show it and/or share it? That really is the question in the end. While I do enjoy giant chains and their products at times, of course, I also think there’s something really cool happening here in the cities and out there in the middle of bumble-fuck and how there's possibly some sort of weird connection between these two things.
